Almost £10,000 was presented at the EnviroGrant Awards to a wide variety of groups who pride themselves on making Staffordshire an even better place to live.
As part of the partnership Staffordshire County Council have with Veolia, who operate the state of the art Energy Recovery Facility at Four Ashes, local community groups are benefiting from an extra helping hand.
This is the first year that Veolia and Staffordshire County Council have run the EnviroGrant scheme with great success. Veolia’s commitment, as part of the contract with the Council, is to encourage local residents to get involved in local projects and also to make Staffordshire a more sustainable county. the area.
The presentation took place at The Oak Room, County Buildings, Stafford where more than 30 guests attended.
Councillor Gill Heath, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Communities, said: “I’m very pleased that Veolia has introduced this excellent scheme, which makes our partnership stronger and helps us both to forge stronger links with our communities.
“The county council commissioned a consortium to support and expand the voluntary sector, because we recognise the invaluable work it does and it gives me great pleasure to hand over this well-deserved funding to support the work of these groups.”
Steve Mitchell – Veolia Director – Midlands West said “Veolia operate a number of EnviroGrant Schemes in the Midlands and in March this year Staffordshire launched its own EnviroGrant Scheme in Partnership with Staffordshire County Council. The awards that have been presented today are the first to be awarded in Staffordshire. This first round received over 50 applications all of which were from worthy causes. Some very hard decisions have had to be made to bring us to this afternoon and each award is well deserved for the work that they do.”
Sara Christie from Chuckle Productions in Stafford said after the event, “We are really grateful to receive this funding. It will help us to transform a piece of land into a calming, magical outdoor space for children with learning difficulties. The children can’t wait.”
